ABOUT DR. BARBARA DENNY
I will be honest with you. This is the hardest part of my information to write. My parents taught me that bragging was bad and unladylike. But the opposite is selling myself short and that is a problem.
WHO AM I?
Here’s what you need to know about me. I love this profession and work constantly to hone my craft. I am constantly reading and taking workshops as well as presenting at workshops to continue building my skills. I focus on staying up on the latest developments in the field. I am a practical, hands-on therapist and search out techniques that work effectively while addressing the root of the problem. I realize that clients have busy lives and are looking for relief now. My goal is to make each session productive and meaningful. To extend the process of change between sessions I often recommend books, hand out articles and give personally designed CDs on specific topics.
I’M NOT A NEWBIE.
I have been in practice more than 25 years as licensed therapist in California and have seen thousands of clients. I have also worked at agencies, done consulting for corporations and done critical incident work for natural and man-made emergencies.
I GET RESULTS.
Part of my secret to getting good results is that I encourage my clients to set collaborative goals and I continue to evaluate and monitor progress. I use checklists and surveys to help us both know if we are on the right track.
I DON’T JUST DO, I ALSO TEACH.
I have found that the key to doing a great job is to teach and to enjoy the bonus of staying current with the latest developments, research and books in the field. I co-founded the psychology program at California Southern University . As a faculty member I enjoy teaching and mentoring students who are training to become therapists.
I GOT HOOKED AT AN EARLY AGE.
I became fascinated with psychology in high school and being the go-to person my friends would come to when they had problems with their boyfriends/girlfriends. I had a compassionate ear even then.
